Broderick’s New Coffee Carts Cause a Stir as Interest Grows from All Sectors

Fara Khan | 3 April 2025

Broderick’s new coffee carts, originally purchased for an ambitious airport contract scheduled to launch on April 1st, are now generating excitement and interest from various sectors. The carts were intended for deployment at satellites and piers, strategically placed at gates that are often a considerable distance from the main food and beverage outlets within airports.

Concept

The concept behind these mobile carts was innovative: to cater to passengers experiencing flight delays and capture those last-minute purchases before boarding. Equipped to accept flight delay vouchers (issued by airlines and varying in value) these manned carts were designed to provide a convenient alternative for passengers, especially those with children or requiring special assistance.

An estimated 8,000,000 delay vouchers per annum are issued, yet a significant percentage remains unredeemed. Why? Because passengers find it challenging or impossible to make the long walk back to the main food and beverage areas, particularly when timing is tight or mobility is an issue.

Coffee Cart Solution

By introducing manned carts, Broderick’s aimed to eliminate the friction caused by vouchers not being accepted by unmanned tills, which often results in lost revenue. Additionally, the carts would support airports’ desire to keep passengers close to departure gates, ready to board should flight schedules suddenly change.

Broderick’s has a history of success in airports, having previously operated coffee bars that earned a stellar reputation among both passengers and staff. The return of the Broderick’s brand – known for quality coffee and often-overlooked tea options – would have been a welcomed reintroduction.

Though the original contract didn’t materialise, the buzz surrounding the carts continues to grow. As Broderick’s explores new opportunities for these versatile carts, the company’s resilience and innovation continue to impress.
